History
The Plummet family has lived in Solutré-Pouilly, a village in the Mâconnais region, for over a century. Since 1850, when the Plummets planted their first vine, the family wine business and viticultural expertise have been passed down from generation to generation. The first documented recognition came in 1928 when Joseph and Philippine Plummet were awarded the first prize at the Mâcon wine competition for their Burgundy wine.[1] (Indeed, at the time the Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran designations had not yet been adopted by the Institut National des Appellations d'Origine (INAO). Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran as geographical designations appeared only in 1936 and 1971, respectively.) Henri Plummet inherited the estate in 1950. Thanks to his hard work and passion, the estate has received a great number of awards . In 1983, Henri Plummet passed his estate to his daughter, Marie-Agnès Plummet, and her husband, Bernard Léger.[2]
Presently, Domaine du Chalet Pouilly, is run by Dr Bernard Léger-Plummet and his wife, Marie-Agnès.
Wines
Domaine du Chalet Pouilly practices traditional wine-growing methods, respecting the "terroir" in order to bring out the superior quality of its wine flavors.[3]
Pouilly-Fuissé: A dry 100%-Chardonnay white wine with a golden color and green glints that brings a mineral bouquet of nice floral touches.
Saint-Véran: Made with 100%-Chardonnay grapes with a light yellow (thanks to the old vineyards) color and an elegant, fruity scent.
Philosophy
Domaine du Chalet Pouilly's philosophy is to allow nature to express itself through the vinification process in order to create high-quality, rich-flavored wines with a rustic touch.[4][5]
Honors
In 1984, Dr. Léger-Plummet completed a degree in Oenology inDijon, France. Marie-Agnes received her agricultural certificate in 2004.[6][7][8]
In 2008 Dr. Léger-Plummet was accepted as a member of the respectable and exclusive club of Burgundy wine enthusiasts Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (The Brotherhood of Knights of Wine-Tasting Cups).
