Dinobastis is a synonym for the saber-toothed cat Homotherium.
The genus was originally named by Cope (1893). Its type is Dinobastis serus. It was synonymized subjectively with Smilodon by Matthew (1910) and later with Homotherium by Churcher (1966), Schultz and et al (1970), Waldrop (1974), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Churcher (1984) and Dalquest and Carpenter (1988).[1][2][3]
Morphology
Two specimens were examined by Legendre and Roth for body mass. The first specimen was estimated to 144.8 kg (320 lb), the second weighed perhaps arround 51.9 kg (110 lb).[4]
