Black Salt Press (or Black Salt Books) is a publishing company founded in 1993 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company began as a publisher of poetry, prose and fiction. The press took part of its initial inspiration from the publishing efforts of Lawrence Ferlinghetti and his City Lights Publishing venture in San Francisco, In 1999 Black Salt Press joined the internet community when they launched their web site. In the new millennium Black Salt Press expanded to include non-fiction and fine arts titles, as well as health and spiritual titles through their imprint, Dharma Lion Books.
