Plot
Dharmadorai (Rajinikanth) as a loner, rescuing a young couple Balu and Ishwarya from a fight. Ishwarya is the daughter of Rajadorai (Saranraj) and has eloped with the blessings of her mother (Vaishnavi). Her father and her uncle Ramadorai (Nizhalgal Ravi) show up, only to beat a hasty retreat when they realize who Ishwarya is with. Dharmadorai's wife (Gouthami) then tells the eloped couple their story that Dharmadorai had showered love and affection on his brothers and had given them money against the wishes of his father (Madhu). But they got involved in illegal activities and become rich by double-crossing their boss. Dharmadorai takes the blame when his brothers kill one of the villains. When he is in jail, his father dies of a heart attack and his son dies in a road accident. Upon release from jail, Dharmadorai finds his father and son dead, and his wife working as a housemaid. In the present day, when the villains capture Rajadorai and Ramadorai, their wives request Dharmadorai to rescue them. Atlast Dharmadurai kills the villains save his brothers. Brothers forgive him for making mistakes. .[3]
Trivia
- The film was later remade in Hindi as Tyagi with Rajinikanth enacting the same role and Jayaprada as the female lead.
- Storyline of Dharmadurai is similar to other Rajinikanth's films like Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai and Padikkadavan.
- This movie was the last film of Director Rajasekar who died in 1991. He directed Mappillai, Maaveeran, Thambikku Entha Ooru with Rajini, Vikram with Kamal Haasan and Punnami Naagu with Chiranjeevi.
