(1980)"Gracias Por La Música" is a 1980
album by Swedish pop groupABBA (see1980 in music ). "Gracias Por La Música" was originally released due to the unexpected break of popularity for the group in Latin American countries such asMexico andArgentina after the release of the Spanish language versions of "Chiquitita" and "I Have a Dream". The band therefore decided to record another eight tracks in Spanish and release a full-length album especially for the South American market. The couple Buddy and Mary McCluskey, both working atRCA Records in Argentina at the time, were again called in to translate the lyrics. During the recording sessions which took place in January of 1980 in thePolar Music studios the lead vocalistsAgnetha Fältskog andAnni-Frid Lyngstad were helped with the pronunciation by Swedish/Argentinian journalist Ana Martinez. The backing tracks, some of which dating back to 1974 and 1975, were also given a slight remix by sound engineer
Michael B. Tretow , most noticeably bringing the snare- and bassdrums to the front, in order to give the album a coherent and more current sound."Gracias Por La Música" was released on CD in Japan in 1988 and in Argentina in 1993, both times by the
Polydor label. The album was out of print in most other territories for a number of years until 1993 when the compilation CD "", which contained the ten tracks of "Gracias Por La Música", was released, rendering this album obsolete. The album's title is the Spanish translation of the title of one of ABBA's hits, "
Thank You for the Music ".Track listing
