Derrell Simpson

Derrell Simpson, a political strategist, columnist and former television talk show host, is the former Commissioner for National and Community Service for the District of Columbia[1]—the youngest person to oversee an executive city government agency.

As commissioner, Simpson provided fiscal oversight of Serve DC’s $10M agency budget. He worked to develop partnerships amongst civic groups, government agencies, schools, corporations and non-profit organizations. Under his watch, Serve DC increased the number of AmeriCorps programs administered in the District, and provided citizens with more opportunities to volunteer.

He has been recognized nationally and locally for his commitment to helping build-up others. He has been named one of “America’s Daring Dozen” by Edutopia magazine[2], “Young Power Broker” by Black Entertainment Television (BET), “Little Big Shot” by the Washington City Paper[3] and is the recipient of awards and honors including include: Special Congressional Recognition, Entrepreneur of the Year from Tuskegee University, and the United States Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

He is also is the managing director of Nvision, llc., a public relations consulting firm, Boardmember of the National Business League Foundation and the African-American World Museum.
