The Train Was on Time (German: Der Zug war pünktlich) is the first published novel by German author Heinrich Böll. It dates from 1949 and it talks about a German soldier taking a train from Paris to Przemyśl (Poland). On his way to the war front, he meets two other Germans with whom he starts a dialogue and a short-term friendship. During their trip we learn much about horrors which soldiers go through during the war, and the effect they leave on a person.
In this short novel Böll attempted to follow the development of battle-induced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
