General and education
Dennis Ganendra was born in Malaysia. He studied at Edgerly Hall, Millfield School and Westminster College, England, where he was Head of House.
He obtained his BA in engineering from Cambridge University in 1987. He was awarded both an Open and Queen’s Jubilee Scholarships from Cambridge and the Institute of Civil Engineers (U.K.), respectively, upon entry. His Cambridge college was Trinity Hall, where he was College Rowing Captain.
Ganendra pursued a Masters of Science in Soil Mechanics at Imperial College, London, where he graduated with distinction in 1989. Soon after, he completed there his Doctorate on ‘Finite Element Analysis of Laterally of Loaded Piles’ in 1994.[1] He has published extensively in international journals and is a speaker of choice at international technical, strategy and development conferences.Life and work
Dr. Dennis Ganendra is a Director of Minconsult Sdn Bhd,[2] (MINCO) one of the largest multi-disciplinary engineering consultancies in South East Asia, headquartered in Selangor, Malaysia, and has built the company’s project portfolio internationally using innovative expertise. The Company and subsidiaries were founded by his late father, P. Ganendra, and have a current work force of over 600 specialists. In 2010, he received on behalf of the Company, the Industry Excellence Award for Export Services, awarded by the Malaysian Government's Ministry of Trade.
MINCO's projects cover a wide scope of works including: highways, ports, airports, railways, power plants, petro-chemical plants, industrial plants, high rise buildings, water treatment plants and sewerage treatment plants. He has successfully established the Minconsult Group as a major development force globally, having secured projects in Afghanistan, Antigua, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia.
In November 2008, Minconsult became the first and only engineering consultancy firm in South East Asia to implement an Integrity Policy through a Memorandum of Collaboration with Transparency International Malaysia (TIM).
Dennis Ganendra is also Chairman of Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd [3] and Lidar Services International Inc., Canada.[4] Both companies are involved in state-of-the-art Airborne Laser Survey Services. Using high-tech digital video geographic systems, these companies have successfully undertaken projects in Asia, Europe and North America.
He serves on the Board of The Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia [5] of which he was also the Honorary Secretary General for many years. He was a Board member of the Construction Industry Development Board,[6] Malaysia from 2000–2009.
He is married to Datin Shalini Ganendra, an art consultant, commentator and gallerist, who is a fellow graduate of Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
In 2003, Dato’ Dennis Ganendra was awarded the Datukship by the Sultan, which carries the title ‘Dato’.Notes and references
