The Australian Department of Defence Defence Intelligence and Security Group (I&S/IS Gp/Defence I&S Group)[1][2] is a division of the Australian Department of Defence and comes under the auspices of the Deputy Secretary for Intelligence and Security (DEPSEC IS).[3] The group provides intelligence for the Australian Government and the Australian Defence Force. The group is an affiliation of three defence intelligence agencies:
- Defence Intelligence Organisation (DIO)
- Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation (DIGO)
- Defence Signals Directorate (DSD)
As Head of Intelligence and Security Group, the Deputy Secretary is also responsible for:[4]
- Defence Security Authority (DSA)
- Business Management - Intelligence Branch (BM-I)
The Office of the Secretary and Chief of Defence Force Group maintains intelligence and security strategy and coordination functions.[5]
- The International Policy Division provides strategic level policy advice to Government on Australia?s defence relations and Australian Defence Force operations.[6]
- The Strategic Policy Division provides analysis of Australia's strategic environment to inform Defence decision making, including on the development and use of military capability, the employment of the ADF, involvement in certain international programs such as the Proliferation Security Initiative, and export controls.[7]
