- Default password
-
Where a device needs a username and/or password to login, a default password is usually provided that allows the device to be accessed during its initial setup. Manufacturers of such equipment typically use a simple password, such as admin or password on all equipment they ship, in the expectation that users will change the password during configuration.
Generally, if the current password of a device is not available it may be necessary to reset the device to factory defaults to re-enable the default password it was provided with from the factory. This often resets the entire device to factory defaults and includes all configuration and data.
