Decentrism

Decentrism

Decentrism is an artistic concept postulating placement of the central part of depicted object somewhere outside the work's borders, from which place the object dominates the depicted surrounding. Decentrism defined the concept of centrism, which describes works of art created according to (non-decentrist) rules.[1]

Idea of decentrism was formulated in 1987 in Warsaw by Polish science-fiction writer Adam Wiśniewski-Snerg. First decentrist art exhibit took place in Paris in 1997. Since then the decentrist postulate was applied in many artistic fields including painting, photography, sculpture and theater.[2]
