December streets

December Streets is an indie rock band from South Africa. The band's debut EP, EP, was released on 20 January 2011.

History

Formed by 5 students of the Tuks who met during 2009-2010, December Streets was originally a project started by lead singer Tristan Coetzee. After many line-up changes due to university pressures, the original band was reduced to just Tristan Coetzee and Gideon Meyer (bass) During auditions for an inter-hostel band competition he met with future lead guitarist Nico van Loggerenberg and drummer Corneil Clasen. Later, trumpet player Waldo Boshoff was brought on board. The newly reformed band quickly gained a following among students in their hometown of Pretoria, and after achieving nation-wide reach with their first single proceeded to launch an EP.

EP

The band's first physical release was entitled simply EP - a 6 track CD with tracks produced by Antimotion guru Dave Grevler as well as TuksFM producer JD Mostert.

4 singles followed from the EP, with fan favourite "My Name" making it to the number 1 position on 5fm's rock chart, as well as a top 10 spot[1] in the International Chart. Three other singles, "Fire Through the Window", "Who Needs Shoes", as well as "Papa Said" all reached the top 10 on local TuksFM charts.[2] EP's were sold at shows only, and given away for free under creative commons. Fans were encourage to copy, share and distribute the album as much as possible.
