Deborah Remington

Deborah Remington (1930 – April 21, 2010) was an American painter. She lived and worked in New York City and Pennsylvania. Remington was a veteran of more than 30 solo exhibitions and hundreds of group exhibitions including 3 Whitney Museum of American Art annuals. She was the great-niece of artist Frederic Remington [1]

Biography

Deborah Remington was born in 1930 and grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey. In 1954, she was one of the six painters and poets, and the only woman, who founded the now legendary Six Gallery in San Francisco.[2] A 1955 graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute she began to exhibit her work in 1962 at the Dilexi Gallery in San Francisco and had solo shows in 1962, 1963, and 1965. She had her first solo exhibition in New York City in 1966 at the Bykert Gallery at 15 W. 57th Street in Manhattan. She had solo shows there in 1967, 1969, 1972 and 1974. In 1983 Remington had a 20 year retrospective exhibition that opened at the Newport Harbor Museum in California and later traveled to the Oakland Museum of California and other venues. In 1984, she received a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1999 She was elected to the National Academy of Design and received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant that same year.

Remington died April 21, 2010 in Moorestown, New Jersey of cancer, aged 79.
