The song was originally recorded that year by Sebastian's group The Lovin' Spoonful and released on their album of the same title.
The song reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100[1] and also #2 on the UK singles chart. The song originated with Sebastian's attempt to rewrite The Supremes' "Baby Love".[2]
