In 2007, Dawson was named the most popular downloaded gay porn star on AEBN as the winner of the VOD (Video on Demand) Performer of the Year Award[5][6] and appeared on the cover of Instigator Magazine [7] as part of an in-depth interview with the performer.

Dawson is open about his HIV-positive status. He stated in an interview "I don't make a point to ask what the other performers' ( HIV ) status is but TIM does and informs someone ... so they can make an informed decision.".[3]
