Career
Beginning as an apprentice at Southampton,[1] Madden had a loan spell at Bournemouth before joining Arsenal in summer of 1983. He mainly played for Arsenal's reserve side but also made two First Division appearances, his debut coming against West Bromwich Albion on December 3, 1983. His other game coming a week later at his boyhood heroes West Ham United. He was granted a free transfer at the end of the 1983-84 season.
He moved to Charlton Athletic and had later spells with the Los Angeles Lazers, Reading, Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and Maidstone United. After retiring as a player in 1991, Madden became Assistant Manager of Maidstone United.
