Advent Design International is Dave Luster's stone bathtub company based in a New Jersey warehouse. The company was founded in 2003 and sells made-to-order eliptical and sometimes circular stone bathtubs, each one hand carved out of single quarried block. The tubs are made from rock types including travertine, marble, limestone, onyx, and basalt, and the company sells about 25 a year.[1]
One tub the company sold began as an 11-ton boulder in Carrara, Italy, before being carved for 300 hours by an Italian craftsmen into a 1,400 pound tub. Advent has also designed a tub with an "undulating ribbon shape" stone sandwiched between two slabs of four inch glass. It is priced at $35,000, and has yet to be built.[1]
Before starting Advent, Luster worked in his family's stone and ceramic tyle business. He has 30 years experience in the "field".[1]
