History
Lineup changes (2004−2009)
In 2006, Since Darknote still had a lack of members, Diddi asked his friend Karl Hólm to join in as bass player. In 2007, in the wake of the departure of Freyr guitarist and constant search for a replacement, Darknote had to delay their release of the EP. In 2009 a young guitarist Ingi Þórisson came to a rehearsal with Darknote. Ingi was the perferct replacement for Freyr.
Metal Edge (2007-2009)
Darknote song, "Sacrifice", sat alongside 15 other songs on a Metal Edge compilation CD, ranging from semi-well known bands such as Lordi to a Dave Grohl/Lemmy/Billy Gibbons collaboration. The CD was featured in the December (2008) issue of the mag, released November 11. The magazine’s run is 100,000 copies. Darknote’s upcoming EP / mini-album "Walk Into Your Nightmare" recently won excellent reviews from Metal Edge’s editors, who encouraged their readers and labels to check the band out.
Walk Into Your Nightmare (2010)
Several changes were made in the making of the album and Darknote grew as a band. The earlier tracks were no longer sufficient to the bands new standard. In 2010 the Ep Walk Into Your Nightmare had a whole new sound to it. Vocal and drum tracks had been replaced and everything was re-mixed and mastered all over again. Darknote decided to release their album in late summer 2010.
Musical style and lyrical themes
Darknote's sound has been linked to technical death metal, thrash metal and progressive metal. Influences are metal artists such as Gojira, Meshuggah and Pantera, to name a few. The vocal style ranges from thrash metal shouts, death metal growl, in addition to clean vocals and high pitch screams.
Each album by Darknote will have its own lyrical theme, depending on what comes to mind at that point. On their first EP, Walk Into Your Nightmare, as the title implies, the lyrics are mainly focused on nightmares, combining the main topic with inner conflicts, natural forces and some history. Lyrics are written by vocalist Diddi Eðvarðs.
