Danson is a surname of Scottish origin. The surname is derived from the name applied to a person who was either a dean, or resembled one. A dean in old terms, meant someone who was a church official. It was very prominent in the Berwickshire district of Scotland in the 16th century.
In those times it was spelled Deins, and the sons of a man bearing the name would continue the name as Deinson, the son of a Dein, or Dean.
At the time of the British Census of 1881 [1], its recurrence was high in Scotland, Durham and Northumberland. It can be found in counties situated in the north of England and parts of Scotland nowadays, with a few residents in Lancashire also holding the surname .
