"The Loft Live" is a television show that began in 1997 and ran until 1999. It was broadcast on Channel 31 in Melbourne, Australia.

RMITV flagship

Originally it was on Wednesday night but it moved to Thursdays. It was produced by RMITV, a community access television organization based at RMIT. Its first host, Rove McManus, moved to commercial Australian television and has become hugely successful. Other hosts include Kim Hope and Ged Wood. Scott Brennan was an unofficial co-host during part of the Ged Wood years, and has himself had success in commercial television, working on shows produced by McManus.

Variety programming

"The Loft Live" is part of a tradition of Thursday night live variety produced by RMITV and broadcast on Channel 31. The Thursday night shows, and "The Loft Live" in particular, are unusual for Channel 31 in that they have had very high production values, comparable to the best commercial television, and high ratings. Other shows that have occupied this timeslot before and after The Loft Live, and during the off-season periods, were "Under Melbourne Tonight", "Whose Shout?", "Chartbusting 80s" and "The Shambles".
