The eight-episode historical fantasy series will be written by Batman Begins and The Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer[2]. It is developed and produced by BBC Worldwide Productions and centers on the fictive story of Leonardo Da Vinci during his 20s in Renaissance Florence.[3]
"This will be a show about secret histories, genius, madness and all things profane," Goyer told The Hollywood Reporter. "And I'm particularly excited that I get to do it on premium cable, where the story can be as dark and challenging and irreverent as it deserves to be.[4]
Production on the series will begin early 2011 for a 2013 premiere. Goyer will serve as showrunner[5], with Julie Gardner (executive producer on the 2005 revival of Doctor Who and its spin-off [6]shows Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures) executive producing along with BBC Worldwide Productions executive vice-president Jane Tranter (Torchwood, Rome).[7]
Development
The project is the first under the multiyear deal Starz and BBC Worldwide Productions set this summer.[8]
