History
It was in year 1956 when Negros Island was heard on the radio. Owned and managed by Sammy Palanca, the first radio broadcasting station in the province was built under the Visayan Broadcasting Network. However, in 1963, Sampaguita Broadcasting System took over the station headed by a business tycoon named Ricardo Lopez-Tan. The station then was known as DYRL taking the first two initials of its founder.
Along with DYWX, a station with purely musical format, the two stations were established as Cameroli Avenue which was originally named as Celso Tan Street in honor of the late Celso Tan, the first class hard-hitting commentator of DYRL who was shot in his own home in Sum-ag, Bacolod City.
