- DICE framework
-
The DICE Framework is a tool originally developed by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG)[1] as a simple method for assessing the likely success of a project based on objective measures.[2].
The acronym DICE stands for:
- Duration (D)
- either the total duration of short projects, or the time between two milestones on longer projects
- Integrity (I)
- the organisation's ability to complete a project on time
- Commitment (C)
- levels of support, composed of two factors:
- C1 backing from the sponsor and senior executives for the change
- C2 support from those who are involved in implementing the change
- Effort (E)
- how much effort will it require to implement (above and beyond business as usual)
The DICE score is calculated according the following formula:
-
- D + (2 x I) + (2 x C1) + C2 + E
Although originally developed at BCG, this has now become widespread (used at over 1100 companies)[3] in project and program management offices.
