Activities
The Retazos company has achieved to develop an audacious and creative language using the setting, revitalizing it and making artists from various fields part of the creation : musicians, sculptors, painters, filmmakers etc.… Havana offers a space where the dancers can experience the limits of their art, playing with the architecture and the history of the city. An old Havana’s narrow view of a street, a daring perpendicular stairway or the repetitious cadence of a fountain represent as many purposes to express and integrate dance with other form of arts. Each year in April since 1996, Retazos holds the International Dance Festival in Urban Landscapes : Old Havana, City in motion. During 7 days, the historic centre of Old Havana is surrounded by dance. Plazas, parks, streets, museums, balconies, windows, walls : every building and architectural element is turned into a stage by Isabel Bustos and her company. These last years, the company toured in Europe (Venice and Lyon Biennals, Sevilla and Paris festivals). Most recently, they performed El Viaje in Malmö (Sweden), where the show received enthusiastic critics.
