Cymbidium Angelica, often referred to as the Christmas angel, is a member of the Orchidaceae family. The genus name Cymbidium is from the Greek word kymbion which means boat-shaped which references to the boat-like shape of the labellum. The genus was first described by Olof Swartz. Cymbidiums can be found distributed naturally throughout South-east Asia from Korea and Japan in the north, to Madagascar and the Himalayas in the west, across to the Philippines in the east and south to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands and eastern Australia. There are approximately 691 species of the genus Cymbidium, which is possibly the oldest recorded orchid, Angelica being on of them.
