CUFA was Founded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1999. Celso Athayde, born in Favela do Sapo, is the great mind behind the idea that became a movement of empowerment of the impoverished, in the most intense do-it-for-yourself style, as opposed to simply being assisted by Government and non-profit programs. CUFA is present in all 27 states of Brazil and develops projects in the areas of Education, Evironment, Culture and Sports. MV Bill is another Founding member of CUFA, he's a rapper, a docummentarist, a writer, and above all , a social activist, whose presence is required in several meetings by the brazilian government when to redefine social politics. Since 2009 CUFA began to develop branches and social projects in several countries, such as Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Chile, Germany, Haiti, Hungary, Italy, Spain and in the USA.
