Coyne College (formerly known as Coyne American Institute) is a for-profit college with two campuses located in the United States in Chicago, Illinois.[2] Coyne American Institute has provided technical training in Chicago Since January 1899.[3] Coyne American Institute was established as the Coyne Electrical School of Chicago.

In 1960s, the Coyne Electrical School merged with the American Institute of Engineering and Technology to become Coyne American Institute. Coyne American Institute and its predecessor schools have trained and placed thousands of students in professional careers. [4]

They offer approved programs in fields such as: Electronic Systems Technician Training, HVAC Training, Medical Assistant Training, Medical Administrative Assistant Training, Pharmacy Technician Training, and Medical Billing and Coding Training.

Electrical Construction and Maintenance

Program includes hands-on training to prepare for a career as an Electrician.

Electrical Construction and Planning

Program includes hands-on training to prepare students to install and maintain electrical devices and wiring in homes, factories, offices and other structures.

Electronic Systems Technician

Program includes hands-on training to prepare students for work on residential and commercial electronic systems, including fiber optics, security systems, communication systems, home theaters and more.

Electronic Systems Technician AAS Degree

Program includes hands-on training skills and knowledge for installing and configuring security systems, computer networks, home theater systems, audio/video/data cabling, home satellite systems, fire alarm systems, and more.

Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Diploma

Program includes hands-on training to learn installing, operating, troubleshooting and servicing domestic and commercial systems. Coyne American Institute has been offering the diploma program in Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration since 1928. [5]

Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration AAS Degree

Program includes hands-on training to learn how to diagnose service, repair and manage systems from HVAC-R industry professionals.


Medical Assistant Diploma

Program includes training to learn appointment scheduling, medical record management, medical terminology, computer applications, and front office skills.

Medical Administrative Assistant Diploma

Program includes training skills to succeed in a variety of health care related careers, including medical front office assistant, receptionist, medical billing and collections clerk, appointment scheduler or medical records clerk, in a variety of healthcare settings.

Medical Assisting AAS Degree

Program training prepares graduates to provide a blend of clerical and clinical services to physicians and other medical staff.

Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Diploma

Program training teaches medical billing and collection, records management, medical insurance claims processing, and CPT and ICD9 Diagnostic codes.

Coyne Loop's Medical Assisting and Medical Assistant programs are accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), making Coyne 1 of only 3 allied health schools in Illinois that holds this programmatic accreditation.

Coyne American Institute is seeking accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association. The program has submitted an Application for Candidacy of a Physical Therapist Assistant Education Program which is the formal application required in the pre-accreditation stage. Submission of this document does not assure that the program will be granted candidate for accreditation status nor does it assure that the program will be granted initial accreditation. [6]

Scholarship programs offered at Coyne American Institute

Imagine America Scholarship

The Imagine America Scholarship program is coordinated by the Imagine America Foundation in Washington, D.C. Every public and private high school in the United States may issue three scholarships annually to graduating seniors who will be attending a proprietary school or college. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact their high school counselor.[7]


Military Award Program

The Military Award Program is provided and coordinated by the Imagine America Foundation, Washington, D.C. The award is available to active duty, honorably discharged, and retired veterans of a United States military service branch. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact a Coyne admissions representative.[8]

Alderman Walter J. Burnett, Jr. 27th Ward Scholarship Program

The Alderman Walter J. Burnett, Jr. 27th Ward Scholarship Program is coordinated by Coyne American Institute. A limited number of awards are available annually to residents of Chicago’s 27th Ward. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact a Coyne admissions representative.[8]
