The Council for Scottish Archaeology (CSA) is now called "Archaeology Scotland". It is a key centre for knowledge and expertise for Scottish archaeology, providing a variety of services and information regarding archaeology in Scotland, including educational resources and publications. Archaeology Scotland is a charitable organisation which is dependent on the subscriptions and donations of supporters, grants from Historic Scotland and Trusts and Foundations. Archaeology Scotland is a regisered Scottish Charity (SC 001723) and a company registered in Scotland (SC262056).
Archaeology Scotland co-ordinates a number of initiatives including the notable Scottish Archaeology Month, which takes place every September as part of European Heritage Days. Hundreds of free archaeological and heritage themed events take place all over Scotland, allowing people to see artefacts and sites, frequently unseen. Archaeology Scotland also organises the annual Archaeological Research in Progress Conference in partnership with the Society of Antiquiaries of Scotland.
