Superintendent
Larry Spring began his duties as Superintendent of the Cortland Enlarged City School District on July 1, 2006. Prior to arriving in Cortland, Larry served as the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction at Wayne Central School District for five years. Larry also served the Churchville-Chili Central School District, in the roles of Assistant Principal and English Administrator as well as the Director of Student Learning. He began his teaching career at East Irondequoit Central School District as a high school social studies teacher. He then moved to the junior high school, where he served as curriculum leader and then as a district-wide staff developer. In all of these positions, Larry’s tenure has been marked by increased student achievement and the development of a student-centered school culture.
Larry earned his Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Geneseo. He also holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Rochester and is a doctoral candidate at Vanderbilt University.
Larry is also an active member in several professional organizations, including the American Educational Research Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the New York State Council of School Superintendents. Larry and his wife, Karen, have two daughters.
Elementary schools
All 5 elementary schools serve students from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Each school is zoned. Smith Elementary serves the northern part of the City of Cortland. Students at Randall Elementary live on the southeastern portion of Cortland. Parker Elementary is located in the midwestern part of Cortland and Barry Elementary school covers the southwestern portion of the City of Cortland and parts of Cortlandville south and southwest of the city. Virgil Elementary is located in Virgil, NY.
