St Athan ( _cy. Sain Tathan) is a
village in theVale of Glamorgan inSouth Wales .History & Amenities
The English name is a corruption of the Welsh female
saint Tathan , described byIolo Morgannwg as the daughter of the King of Gwent. The village andparish church is dedicated to St Tathan. There are twopub s in the village, the King's Cup and the Four Bells. There is also askate park and a two community centres one of which holds a fun-day on a yearly basis.The village football team has been described as the most intimidating village by Stewart Bossworth the manager of the
Llantwit Major football team.RAF St. Athan
A large
RAF base,RAF St Athan is located in the village. A large privatemilitary academy , based on theSchool of the Americas , is planned for the village. Construction begins in 2009.External Links
