Cormar Carpets

Cormar Carpets is a British manufacturer of tufted carpets based in Greater Manchester. It produces circa 7m sq metres of primarily residential carpet per annum from its two mills - Holme Mill in Ramsbottom and Brookhouse Mill in Greenmount. Turnover to October 2008 was £60m, ranking in the top three tufted carpet manufacturers in the UK by volume and value.

It is privately owned, and employs 215 employees and running a delivery fleet of 60 vehicles. Distribution of the carpet is through a network of eleven outbases throughout Britain and Ireland.

Formerly known as Greenwood & Coope (originally a textiles accessory supply business started in 1924) Cormar Carpets, set up by Neville Cormack O.B.E, was one of the first companies to start producing tufted carpet in Britain in 1956 at Nunn Hill Mills in the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire. It moved to Brookhouse Mill in Greenmount, Lancashire in 1959 and a second mill, Holme Mill in Ramsbottom, was purchased via the acquisition of Holmebury Carpets in 1973. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s the company continued its growth, moving into wool-based twist pile carpet. In 2006 the company was named as one of 10 companies to watch in the Sunday Times Top 100 independent companies in the UK.
