Conscription in Egypt

Conscription in Egypt

Conscription in Egypt (Arabic: التجنيد attagneed‎) is a form of a national duty in Egypt.

Conscription is a compulsory in Egypt for males of ages between 18 and 30. The service obligation is between 12 to 36 months[1], depending on their educational backgrounds, culture, drop-outs, etc.[2] Followed by a 9-year reserve obligation.[2]

Service is postponed for students until their studies are finished, before they turn 25 years old and they can not travel abroad without travel permit from the ministry of defense.

Only Egyptian males with a male sibling are allowed to become conscripted, if they have no male siblings or dual citizenship they are exempt from service.

Males cannot be enlisted when they turn 30 because they are considered unfit for the service.

Only Egyptians with only Egyptian nationality must be enlisted and called for the service. Otherwise, they are exempted. They can be also exempted if they have no brothers or they are the only supporters for their family.

People graduated from colleges are offered to remain in the career after the obligation period (12–36 months), and they are positioned in special ranks amongst the other conscripts.
