Connie Lim, 24,[year missing] is an LA based singer/songwriter. Born in Hollywood and raised in Palos Verdes, Connie Lim grew up close to the ocean, which she claims to be a huge inspiration for her work.[1]
Lim started writing her own songs under the direction of her first piano teacher, Virginia Mendenhall. Her first song was entitled "Healthy People" at age 8. She continued to win composition awards throughout high school, but never considered to break from her traditional upbringing to make music her career. Born to a family of doctors, Connie felt quite a bit of "loving pressure" to pursue medicine as well.
In 2004 Connie enrolled as an undeclared major at UC Berkeley with plans to pursue medicine. Pre-med then became pre-law, which then became pre-business. As she pursued her studies, she continued to write music. She then saved up money to buy her first Casio keyboard. She found her first band mates by typing the instruments she wanted into the search box of her Facebook account, and realized many of her friends played music. Just like that, Connie started playing in the bay area with Farhad Farahmand on congas, Ian Lokae on bass, Walker Johnson on Drums, Dan on sax, and Tim Wong on Violin.[2]
Within a year, she began recording with highschool pal, James Blashaw to create her first bedroom EP, entitled "Shifting".[3]
After getting her BA from Berkeley, she drove back down to Los Angeles to pursue her caree.
Since then she's played at top choice venues like The House of Blues, The Viper Room, The Los Angeles Orpheum Theatre, and Saint Rocke. She has shared stages with artists ranging from Goapele to Colby O'Donis. She has also made guest appearances on NBC's Sunday LA show with Ted Chen, and Raw Music with Mekahlo Medina. You can find interviews of Lim with Berkeley's Daily Californian', Hardboiled',Hermosa Beach's The Beach Reporter , Channel APA's very own Steve Nguyen, and her hometown's main publication, Peninsula People.
Lim is currently recording her next EP in downtown LA, to be released at Hotel Cafe July 17, 2010.[dated info] Lim's music is available on www.iTunes.com/connielim and her community interact mainly on www.facebook.com/connielimmusic.
