Although the website appears to list a large number of insurers, a high percentage of these are part of the BGL Group, and many insurers present on other price comparison websites are not listed.

Advertising
In January 2009, the company launched the comparethemeerkat.com advertising campaign. The campaign focuses on the founder of comparethemeerkat.com - a meerkat comparison website - a CGI meerkat character named Aleksandr Orlov, voiced by Simon Greenall. In these adverts, Aleksandr Orlov pleads to the audience to stop visiting comparethemeerkat.com looking for cheap car insurance, and instead go and compare the market at comparethemarket.com.
In 2010, the campaign evolved to produce three short 'films' charting Aleksandr's historical struggles and how he came to be the founder of comparethemeerkat.com. The series of three 60 second adverts follows the Orlov family from their "Journey of Courageousness" from the Kalahari Desert to Russia, through to the "Battle of Fearlessness" where the meerkat army fought the mongoose army and then finally onto the "Streets of Ambitiousness" where the Orlov family business began as comparethemeerkat.cart, to then comparethemeerkat.shop, before culminating in comparethemeerkat.com.
