History
Colonia Valdense was founded in 1856, following the arrival of Italian immigrants from Piedmont. The town is named after Pierre Valdo, a French priest founder of the religious movement known as «the Valdensians».
Its status was elevated to "Pueblo" (town) category on 6 January 1951 by decree Ley No. 11.742.[1]

According to the 2004 census, the town had a population of 3,087.[2]
