artist born in the village of Lees,Lancashire ,England .Helen was born at 58 High Street, Lees on 20 November 1900. She died on 19 July 1979 shortly before she was due to be honoured with an MBE.She painted mainly with her hands and fingers. Her oil paintings vividly depict Lancashire life as it was between 1900 and 1910. As popular in the
United States as in theUnited Kingdom , her paintings now fetch tens of thousands at auction. A series of books illustrated with these naive paintings topped the bestseller lists in the early 1970s.Much of her work can be seen in
Gallery Oldham , a state-of-the-art art gallery complex found inOldham which serves the local and wider communities.External links
