Although he never experienced finals football with Essendon, Hearn played for the league in a representative match against the VFA in 1934.
Known for his pace, Hearn was a competitive sprinter and won the Stawell Gift in 1929.[2] He played for Sandringham in the VFA as captain-coach in 1936.
