Clare Politics Founded 2006 Website www.clarepolitics.co.uk Political position Non-partisan Honorary Patron Matthew Parris Clare Politics is a student-run political society based at Clare College, Cambridge. Its self-proclaimed aim is "to bring the leading figures from the world of politics and current affairs to Clare to discuss the issues of the day".[1]
The society was founded in 2006 by a history undergraduate, Matt Clifford.[2] The honorary patron of the society is Clare alumnus and Times journalist Matthew Parris, who presented the society's inaugural event that year.[citation needed] Since its inception, the society has played host to diverse speakers across the political spectrum, including Shami Chakrabarti, Douglas Hurd, Nigel Farage, Lord Adonis, former Governor of Virginia Doug Wilder, and more recently Edwina Currie, Simon Hoggart, George Steiner, and MPs Jon Cruddas, Julian Huppert and Richard Taylor.[3]
The society has an associated Facebook group[4] and Twitter feed.[5]
