Chua Chu Kang Group Representation Constituency

Chua Chu Kang Group Representation Constituency
Not to be confused with Choa Chu Kang Single Member Constituency which was one of the oldest surviving ward since the pre-independence era til prior to 2011 general election.

Choa Chu Kang Group Representation Constituency (Traditional Chinese: 蔡厝港集選區; Simplified Chinese: 蔡厝港集选区) is a five-member Group Representation Constituency located in the western area of Singapore.

The constituency covers the areas of Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang (formerly Chua Chu Kang SMC), Upper Bukit Timah, Jurong West and Lim Chu Kang.

Choa Chu Kang GRC was formerly called Hong Kah GRC, from 1988 to 2011, before the 2011 General Elections. Thus, since it was just a change of name, it would mean that all of its wards are from the former Hong Kah GRC, with the exception of Hong Kah North ward that had been crafted out to become Hong Kah North SMC after the 2011 elections.

It is divided into five wards namely, Bukit Gombak, Chua Chu Kang, Keat Hong, Nanyang and Yew Tee. In 2001, Bukit Gombak SMC was absorbed into the former Hong Kah GRC with the town council being Hong Kah Town Council.

In 2011, Choa Chu Kang was absorbed into the Hong Kah GRC and probably because of that, the Hong Kah GRC was renamed to 'Choa Chu Kang GRC'. Prior to the 2011 elections, Choa Chu Kang was one of the oldest surviving constituencies in Singapore and the only one to have both remained intact and existed before Singapore's independence, existed since 1959 when Singapore gained full self-governance from its colonial British Government.

It is a huge constituency in terms of land area and covers the entire Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Gombak, Nanyang, Jurong West and Western Water Catchment region of Singapore and its territorial waters in the Straits of Johor.

Choa Chu Kang GRC is now led by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong.
