- Christian Lotz

Christian Lotz (born 21 February 1970 in Wuppertal) is a German-American philosopher currently teaching at Michigan State University. Lotz's work primarily focuses on 19th and 20th Century European Philosophy (esp. German Philosophy), Continental Aesthetics, Critical Theory, Marxism, Philosophy of Culture, and Philosophical Anthropology.

Academic Career
Lotz earned his M.A. in Philosophy, sociology, and art history at Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg (1997) before going on to earn a Ph.D. in philosophy at Philipps University of Marburg (Germany) in 2002. He was also an Emory University Research Fellow from 2000-2002. Previously, Lotz taught at Seattle University and The University of Kansas before going on to teach at Michigan State University. He was awarded a DAAD visiting professorship at the Brandenburg University of Technology in 2011.

Awards and Distinctions
Lotz was awarded the Teacher‐Scholar Award from the Office of the Provost at Michigan State University in 2009. He received two fellowships: The DFG Fellowship from the German Science Foundation (1999‐2002) and a Young Scholar Fellowship from Land Hessen (1997‐99).
