He is a nephew of Helmut Haller. He played in two friendlies for West Germany in December 1987 – against Brazil and Argentina.
After his playing career he was athletic director for Borussia Mönchengladbach from 1999 to 2005 and later for Hannover 96 (December 2006 to summer 2009).[2]
