The product was initially produced in 1934 during the British Mandate for Palestine under the name "Shamnunit" (Hebrew: שמנונית, lit. greasy). Since the 1950s an image of a cow was placed on the cover of the product and as a result it became commonly known as Cow Chocolate (Shokolad Para). Cow Chocolate is one of the company's leading products and also one of the popular chocolate bars brands in Israel.
Since 2002 the Cow Chocolate brand has been further developed – Elite started producing chocolate spreads, snacks and candy under the brand name in addition to the chocolate bars. Also, the image of the cow on the covers of the brand's products was modified.
