- Chief medical student
-
A chief medical student is a role sometimes used amongst a group of medical students. The chief medical student typically has additional responsibilities, such as keeping attendance of the other students and creating and maintaining their "on-call" schedule. It sometimes allows the student to have more interaction with the supervising doctors.
The term is also sometimes used colloquially to refer to a medical student who has chosen to extend medical school beyond their 4th year. This may be due to any number of reasons, such as travel, education, or leisure.
