Chengalpet Medical College

Chengalpattu Government Medical College is an educational institution located in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India.

History

The history of Chengalpattu Medical College dates back to days before 1965 when this was a District Head Quarters hospital with its building in the town. In 1965, the Tamil Nadu Government upgraded this District Headquarters hospital as a teaching institution with 250 beds for clinical training. Mr. Vedachalam Mudaliar, the then Chairman of Chengalpattu Municipality, donated a vast area, which is in pocession of this institution today. To begin with, this institution had an annual admission of 50 students, which the institution maintains till date. This 46-year old institution was the 6th of its kind to be started in Tamil Nadu. The hospital, at its dawn, was functioning with the basic departments which include Medicine, Surgery, O&G, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Ophthalmolgy, ENT, Psychiatry and Chest Clinic. As days went by, the super specialty departments started functioning one by one thus making our hospital a tertiary care center with multi Specialty approach. The super specialty presently functioning are Neurology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Neuro Surgery, etc.,

Affiliation

This college is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR University, Guindy, Chennai.^[4] It is recognized by the Medical Council Of India.
