The main site of the department is located in Building 17's northern wing. The department is the primary center for chemical engineering teaching and research activities in Pomona, California and is currently headed by Professor Vilupanur Ravi.

ABET, Inc. (formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) certifies the quality of the program. The department is also accredited by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
