Emma Townshend

Emma Townshend (born 1969) is a journalist and lecturer; she is the elder daughter of The Who's Pete Townshend.

From 1995-8 she had a record deal with East West, part of the Warner Group, releasing an album Winterland in 1998. Her song "We Can Fly Away" was the theme song in the 1999 made for TV movie The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns, which by coincidence featured The Who's Roger Daltrey.

She read history at King's College, Cambridge and then specialised in history of science at Imperial College, London. She has taught for Oxford University’s Department of Continuing Education since 2000 and is also a Visiting Lecturer at City University, London.

She writes on general arts subjects for magazines and newspapers including The Times and The Observer, and is The Independent on Sunday’s gardening columnist.
