Champion Forest Baptist Church, is a megachurch in Northwest Houston, Texas. It is an evangelical, Christian church, and is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention.

History

The church began meeting on September 20, 1970 with six people present at Klein Intermediate School under the founding pastor, Rev. Robin Guess. In April 1978, Rev. Damon Shook began his nearly three decades of service as pastor of the church. In 1991, the church purchased 49 acres (200,000 m²) at the corner Stuebner-Airline and Strack Road for just over $2.2 million. The current worship center opened in 2002. In 2007, Dr. David Fleming joined the church as senior pastor.^[1]

Swine Flu Reaction

The church gained attention in May 2009 when it made significant adjustments to its regular plans in light of the swine flu outbreak. Houston television newscasts on CBS^[2], NBC^[3], Fox^[4], Univision and 39News^[5] all ran full stories in addition to coverage on News Radio 740 KTRH^[6].
