Cabrera is an American diplomat and incumbent U.S. Ambassador to Mauritius. He has been a leader in the development and construction industries in Puerto Rico for over 35 years.
He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez campus with a major in Civil Engineering.
He is the president of three development companies and has organized, and has executed and supervised construction development projects valued at over $300 million. He is a leader in the finance, government and banking fields and was twice named Home Builder Multifamily Project of the Year. He has served as a board member and as treasurer of the Home Builders Puerto Rico chapter.
Cabrera has also had an active political career. From 1992 to 2004, he served as Executive Director of the Republican Party of Puerto Rico and led the Puerto Rico delegation to the Republican National Convention in 2000. In 2004, he was a member of the U.S. Presidential Delegation at the inauguration of Martin Torrijos, President of Panama. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation.[1]
He is also a member of the Council of American Ambassadors. He is married and has one daughter. [2]
