Swainson, 1840[1]Cerithidea is a genus of medium-sized sea snails or mud snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Potamididae, the horn snails.
Species
There are three subgenera[2] in the genus Cerithidea and species within the genus Cerithidea include:
subgenus Cerithidea
- Cerithidea obtusa (Lamarck, 1822)[3] - type species[2]
- Cerithidea rhizophorarum A. Adams, 1855[4][2]
subgenus Cerithideopsis Thiele, 1929
- Cerithidea pliculosa (Menke, 1829)[5] - plicate hornsnail[6] - type species of subgenus Cerithideopsis[2]
- Cerithidea scalariformis (Say, 1825)[7] - ladder hornsnail[6][2]
subgenus Cerithideopsilla Thiele, 1929 - this subgenus is the most primitive of genus Cerithidea[2]
- Cerithidea cingulata (Gmelin, 1791)[8][9] - type species of subgenus Cerithideopsilla[2]
subgenus ?
- Cerithidea alata (Philippi, 1849)[10]

- Cerithidea costata (E. M. da Costa, 1778)[12] - costate hornsnail[6]
- Cerithidea decollata Linnaeus, 1758[6][13]
- Cerithidea djadjariensis (K. Martin, 1899)[14]
- Cerithidea fuscata Gould, 1857[6] - this species has probably become extinct in recent times[15]
