Centro de Biotecnologia dos Açores (CBA)

The Biotechnology Centre of the Azores (CBA) is a biotechnology research center founded in 2003 by a group of professors from the University of the Azores's department of agricultural sciences. The organization's goal is to research and further develop agricultural biotechnology.

The organization, which has been recognized by the Foundation for Science and Technology[citation needed], conducts multiple projects funded by the European Union, Foundation for Science and Technology, and other various institutions of the Regional Government of the Azores.

The CBA is integrated with the UAç, which it depends on for financial management and administration of their projects. The majority of these research projects are related to plant, animal, and food, and environmental biotechnology. These projects are funded by the European Union Foundation for Science and Technology and by various institutions of the Regional Government of the Azores. It also has partnerships with several universities in Portugal, Europe and the United States.[citation needed]

Currently, the majority of investigative research is in plant, animal, and food, and environmental biotechnology.

Their work has been published in journals of international standing and, on several occasions, acknowledged with scientific awards.[citation needed]
